Welcome to Cellar Notes - Creekside Cellars email Newsletter # 78

Flowers replacing candles on our tables...with Springtime weather flirting with us and daffodils blooming just about everywhere, it's time to take the candles off our tables in the tasting room for the season.  Soon you'll see charming little vases of bright flowers to greet you at the table giving us a hint of Spring Fever.  And don't forget to "Spring Forward" your clocks this weekend and start enjoying longer, brighter evenings.  We'll have the candles lit for one last weekend and then rely on the sunset to provide the evening glow through our paned windows.  And then, maybe, Spring will get the cue to really show off!

This Week's Tasting: Creekside Cellar Sampler

March 11, 12 & 13   Thursday Friday & Saturday   4-7pm

Many times we're asked by our customers "What is your favorite wine and cheese?"  Sometimes it depends on the time of the year and what suits our lifestyle and other times it's just what we like at the moment!  This week we're showcasing Creekside Cellars Sampler with some of our favorite wines and cheese plus some new finds. Rombauer Zinfandel is always ready to please & goes so well with a wonder of a cheese, Cabot 2 year old Cheddar.  The Buehler Estate Cabernet Sauvignon '06 is a winner as is the unctuous Educated Guess Chardonnay from Napa.  The popular La Marca Prosecco from Italy along with Nevada City's Barbera (Calif. State Fair Gold Medal Winner!) and the Perrin & Fils Cotes du Rhone that is on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list for '09 are also our favs & will be poured. Plus a quaffable Sauvignon Blanc blend from Spain "Basa" & others will be featured.  Don't miss the cheese plate where you can savorsome of our favorites that include Humboldt Fog, La Tur, aged Gouda and marinated  Bocconcini, yum! So come in and "sample" the Creekside Favorites this weekend!

Next Weeks Tasting: Big Reds~ Syrah & Petite Sirah

Next Weeks Tasting: Big Reds~ Syrah & Petite Sirah

March 18, 19 & 20    Thursday, Friday & Saturday    4-7pm

Syrah and Petite Sirahs will be the featured wines next week as we pour some big REDS.  You'll taste the difference by the appellation that these wines come from and also taste why petite sirahs really aren't all that "petite"!  From the Santa Barbara area comes Zaca Mesa Syrah,  the Dry Creek area shows off Novy Syrah and then there is Domaine Terre Rouge in the Sierra Foothills. A new find for us is the  Saxon Brown Parmelee Hills Syrah of Sonoma. The first thing you'll notice is the density of color and the vivid aromatics. Violets, concentrated black cherry, mocha, cigar tobacco, brown spice, blackberry and refined oak converge in varying degrees. The palate is very rich and well structured, leading to a long, lush finish. Receiving 92 points from Wine Spectator it's a syrah you must try!  The not so "petite" sirah line-up includes Jeff Runquist's R from Amador County, PETS from Vinum Cellars in Clarksburg and the brooding Rosenblum Pickett Road from Napa. With blackberry and currant notes with some cracked black pepper woven in, it shows a dense profile with hints of vanilla and exoctic spices. No wonder Wine Spectator also gave it 92 points!  We've chosen a cheese matchup that enhances the wine with Taleggio, Mahon, Stilton, Chiptole Cheddar being served.  Of course we'll have a few white wines as well to round out the tasting.  Come explore the many shades and tastes of Syrahs and Petite Sirahs with us!

Cowgirl Creamery's "St. Pat" Cheese arrives next Week!

Cowgirl Creamery's “St. Pat“ Cheese arrives next Week!

ST PAT is a seasonal springtime cheese from popular Cowgirl Creamery and arrrives early next week, just in time for St. Patrick's Day!. These rounds are made with whole organic milk from the Chileno Valley Jersey Dairy and are wrapped with stinging nettle leaves. Do not fear the nettles, since they are frozen to remove the sting before they are wrapped around the cheese. ST PAT, with its distinctive, green rind, commemorates the arrival of spring in Marin County. After three weeks of aging, ST PAT is mellow, soft, and full of flavor. The nettle leaves impart a smoky, artichoke flavor. ST PAT received a Gold Medal at the 2009 North American Jersey Cheese Competition.  We'll be serving ST PAT on our cheese plate in the tasting room after it arrives next week.  Please let us know if you'd like to purchase this seasonal favorite and we'll order more!
