On Monday, October 14 at approximately 1 p.m., a deputy from the Burney Patrol Division watched Trevor Doyle Linares, 24, and Alicia Lynn Hardin, 23, of Burney walk through the playground at Burney Elementary. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Marc St. Clair, The suspects appeared to have no legitimate business on the school grounds. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office had received a complaint from school administrators about suspicious subjects walking through the school in the past.
The deputy made a consensual contact with the two in the school parking lot. The suspects could not provide a reason for being on school grounds other than using the school as a short cut. The deputy noticed the male begin to look around. He also had a bulge under his shirt. The deputy saw Linares, reach for the bulky item, at which time, the deputy confronted him about the item.
Not knowing if he was armed he attempted to physically control the suspect for officer safety purposes. Linares pulled away and a foot pursuit ensued.
