PG&E to Increase Pit River Flows

Filed under: Uncategorized — waltblog @ 9:42 am

BURNEY – Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will provide high, whitewater flows down 10 miles of the Pit River in eastern Shasta County over two weekends, the company announced Friday.
The higher flows will occur on October 4-6 and 18-20 below PG&E’s Pit 1 Forebay in Fall River Mills to Lake Britton, a distance of about 10 river miles.
Those recreating in or near this portion of the river are encouraged to use extra caution during the increased flows.
Prior to the increase for October 4-6, flows will be about 200 cubic feet per second (cfs) at the confluence of the Pit and Fall rivers.
Starting at about 2 p.m. on Friday, October 4, PG&E will gradually increase water flows from the Pit 1 Forebay until flows reach about 800 cfs about two hours later. The flows will be held at this level until about 3 p.m. on Sunday when flows will gradually be reduced to 200 cfs about three hours later.
On the weekend of October 18-20, the pattern will be repeated.
The whitewater flows are a requirement of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license conditions for the Pit 1 Hydroelectric Project.
