Backfiring Begins at Reading Fire

Filed under: Uncategorized — waltblog @ 6:08 pm

Kent Swartzlander (pictured left), Liaison Officer and assistant incident commander for the Reading Fire told an audience of roughly 100 that everything was in place and as long as the moisture content in the air remained at the level it currently was, approximately 15%, and the winds cooperated the fire crews were ready to start back fires.
The crews had built dozer lines across much of the area they plan to burn and have hose lines and other buffers in place where the dozer lines aren’t. The Red Cross, Sheriff ’s Department and other agencies, including Lassen National Forest Supervisor Jerry Byrd, answered questions.
While not guaranteed, the consensus was that residents would have roughly a day’s warning, unless all hell broke lose. The fire is burning to the east and going back up West Prospect.
