REDDING – Two incumbents have decided not to run for re-election to their boards giving potential candidates another week in which to file.
Jim Hamlin, current president of Mayers Memorial Hospital District’s board and Val Lakey, past president of the Fall River Joint Unified School District’s board of Trustees, are retiring at the end of this term.
Hamlin, who has been on his board since the 1980’s says he feels it is time. He is happy with the direction the district is going in and feels it is time for others to bring new perspectives into the mix.
Val Lakey says she has served nine years and has two children in college. She wants to be able to spend more time visiting them and taking care of other commitments.
